Install, test and clean your smoke detectors.

Have a fire extinguisher in the home and know how and when to properly use it.

Practice Exit Drills In The Home (EDITH).

 

General Emergency Preparedness

Have an emergency food and light kit in the home in case of major disaster or loss of electricity for an extended period.

Teach children how and when to use 911.

Carefully inform babysitters or friends watching your house exactly what to do in an emergency and be sure they have contact numbers.
