A Letter from the Retired Chief

The Skyline Fire Protection District was incorporated in the fall of 1957 and the volunteer fire department was established and began training and responding to incidents in the spring of 1958.  The one square mile of the District is located on the western edge of Arapahoe County, surrounded by the city and county of Denver.

Our membership was comprised of a diverse team of dedicated volunteers.  These amazing individuals responded to calls via pager notification and were ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  These men and women committed themselves to training in every arena of emergency services...from structural fire supression, emergency medical care, hazardous materials recognition and operations, public education and fire safety.

Our fire safety education programs and public relations were enhanced by the performance of JAKE our fire dog.  Jake loved showing the kids at our local schools how to "stop, drop and roll", crawl low in the smoke, and check the doors for heat before opening them.  He was a very popular and well loved member of our team.

Volunteer fire fighters protect close to 85% of America...they are your neighbors, friends and co-workers.  With initiation of the Intergovernmental Agreement for service to the Skyline District by the Denver Fire Department, this tradition comes to an end in the Holly Hills neighborhood.

So we tip our hats and say THANKS to the men and women who have served the Skyline Fire Protection District for so long and so well.  You have done us proud!
